Well House Consultants Training Courses

Well House Consultants has written and presented training course on specialised computer subjects for over 10 years. Because our courses are so "niche", our clients travel from far and wide to attend our public courses in Melksham, Wiltshire, UK. That's why we've opened our own hotel, especially to cater for the requirements of delegates on our courses, and other business visitors to the town.

How our courses work

Public Courses are those which are open to anyone to book on. They are scheduled up to 12 months in advance, and run with a maximum of eight delegates to a fixed agenda. The tutor also writes the courses, and is able to answer the wide variety of questions delegates may wish to ask.

Public course take place in either The Wilts or the Berks rooms - both of which are equipped with one laptop computer per delegate, whiteboards, projectors, comfortable seating, wired and wireless internet access, and anything else you might need for a course.

Public courses last between one and five days, depending on the subject being taught. Most delegates arrive the evening before the course starts, check in to the hotel, and make themselves at home. Formal course sessions and practical exercises run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, but delegates have access to the training room and library at any time, day or night.

There are two alternative training schemes we offer if you have a group of delegates who require the same training course at the same time ...

1) We run private courses at Well House Manor, using the same facilities that are available during public course. However, private courses are tailored to suit the needs of the individual client group, and we can be more flexible in the number of delegates we accept, and the hours that the course runs. details

2) For larger groups (from 4 to 12 delegates), we can run courses at your own offices too - all we ask you to provide is "a room and the students" and we do the rest - we bring all the manuals, loan equipment for delegates to use, provide the tutor, and so on. This service is available throughout Europe; as we train in English, though, most courses are in the UK and Ireland. We also train (occasionally) elsewhere in the World. details

An Introduction to our subjects

PHP is a programming language that's much used on web sites to run shops, discussion groups, blogs and much more.

Perl is a language that's used for a lot of heavy data analysis programming, and also on many web sites.

Python is a programming language that uses "Object Oriented" techniques - it's ideal for handling whole groups of similar data types, and is typically used in larger applications by groups of computer professionals.

MySQL is a database. In other words, it's a program that is used to store, sort and retreive large amounts of data efficiently.

Apache httpd and Tomcat are web servers. A web server is a piece of software you need to have running on your web site at all times, as it's the element that is contacted by your visitors and returns information to them.

Tcl, Tcl/Tk and Expect are specialised tools used in numerical control, integrated circuit design, and certain other applications to provide a tailoring layer and graphic user interface (GUI) for the user.

Ruby is another Open Source programming language

Java is a language that's used for many web applications. It's especially popular for larger tasks and you'll find it in common use in many of the big city institutions.

C and C++ are the bedrock languages of modern computing, although these days most people can write their programs in a higher level language that makes use of C and/or C++ internally, rather than using C and C++ directly.

Linux is the most popular operating system for Web Servers. If you're running your own web server, you'll need to know a little about Linux too.
